Pink Frills: Part 1

~You Make Life So Sweet~

Hi, I hope you are all enjoying the start to your weekend :)
I have just spent a lovely couple of days visiting with my mom and her dear friend, and what a wonderful start to our weekend it has been.

We even managed to fit in some crafting during our visit, and I promise to be back very soon to share what I made.

For tonight, though, I would love to share with you my newest addiction.
It seems that I've found a new soft spot in my heart....For all things hot pink.
If you visit my blog frequently, you'll know that I've been playing with pastels for many years and they seem to be my go-to colors.

Today's splashy color just so happens to be my new favorite and I think it's here to stay for a while...So get ready to see oodles of hot pink around here.

I have two cards to share today, and a couple more in the works...Coming your way very soon.

First up, this has to be one of my most recent favorite cards. I got the idea for this card after browsing some very inspiring Make It Monday videos over at Papertrey Ink. One of which was done by the uber talented Melissa Phillips. Here is the video to her tutorial, if you'd like to try the technique for a heart window. I sure hope you give it a go, because it's just so easy and fun!

I had to do a bit of thinking outside the box for this one, as I did not have some of the supplies to make the pretty heart window. Instead of the Limitless Layers Hearts die, I used the largest die from the Heart Prints set. Without these dies, I was of course lacking a pretty mat for the heart outline, so I substituted with a little bit of frilly ribbon.

Lastly, I did not have any cover plates for the pretty lattice window look, so I experimented with a few options like lace, vellum and patterned paper...But finally settled on some Vintage Cream felt. I just love the instant coziness it adds to a card. Especially when accompanied by mini buttons and tiny felt hearts :) Also, instead of using patterned paper, I used pretty polka dot fabric to add even more texture to the card.

Just below the heart, I added a sentiment from a Stampin' Up stamp set, which I borrowed from a dear friend. After cutting it out, I matted it with a pinked piece of fabric, which I cut using PTI's Perfect Patches die.

Instead of posies, I decided to add a couple of pretty leaves from the same stamp set, Rosie Posie from Papertrey Ink. I added a stamped border at the bottom (from the same SU set), and a birthday sentiment from PTI's Just the Ticket stamp set.

For this next card, I wanted to use the pretty fabrics in a different way, so I dug around in my scrappy space to find complementary accents...And to my surprise, I stumbled upon this beautiful tinsel from many Christmases ago, and the pretty lone heart pin, which had been long forgotten. (There is something so gratifying about digging for little tidbits, only to come across the perfect little accent...Do you ever dig through your scrappy stash hoping to find just the right thing?)

The flower is combination of pretty layers of fabric, cut using PTI's Lovely Layers die, as well as layers of felt and tinsel, finished off with a button and a heart pin.

For the top of the card, I used a felt border, which was cut with PTI's Banner Border die, and another one cut with the Heart Border die

I stamped the background using the Distressed Stripes stamp set in Sweet Blush, Winter Wisteria, and Hibiscus Burst inks.

Just below, a sentiment stamped using Strawberry Patch Sentiments, and a frame stamp from the Sweet Spring stamp set.

What do you think of this bright, cheery pop of color amongst all of the pastels?
Hope you likey!

Be back with more pink frills very soon,

xo
